I had only had Kylo for a couple months before the wedding so I had to bring him with me wherever I went, including to dance practices with Mausami and Sonam.
On the Wednesday before the wedding, I woke up early to keep practicing Uptown Funk cause I knew I'd have to teach the rest of the cousins :| Then Maus and I went to pickup the first arriving family members!
The Mehndi was amazing! The house was transformed and I remember Jaya was still getting her mehndi done when we got there but she looked so beautiful :D It was awesome finally getting to meet everyone from Jaya's side and reconnect with everyone from our side. I remember Tara and Sheila getting dad started and hooked on Instagram. He used it for that weekend but I don't think he's used it since. We got back to the hotel and were all beat but we knew we had to practice our dances. All the cousins met up at the hotel bar, we got some wine and whisky, found an empty ballroom, and practiced until the early hours of the morning. Even though we had a lot to learn everyone was having so much fun!
We kept sneaking in dance practice whenever we could...
It was great to get some face time with Jaya and Shovaen even though they were so busy!
The Sangeet was awesome. We siblings had planned a little game to play with Shovaen and Jaya in between the performances, but unfortunately, we had failed to actually write down the questions. I remember realizing this halfway through the program and frantically asking Sejal for a pen and paper to write down the questions before we got on stage. The night ended with another trip to the hotel bar and another long night of dance practice.
The morning of the wedding, I remember I was getting ready with Shovaen and we had a variety bag of undershirts in front of us. We probably spent 20 minutes talking about which ones to wear. Unfortunately, my red undershirt started bleeding color after the Baraat and even after a shower, it made my white reception shirt pink. The wedding was beautiful. But we were all so beat afterwards, we went down for a nap. After getting ready, I got a frantic text from the cousins asking if we could practice the dances one more time. We had one last quick practice and went down to cocktail hour. The reception went by so fast but it was so much fun. From Nida making everyone let me cut them in the dinner line to Darth Vader showing up to everyone dancing to Backstreet Boys at the after party, it was an unforgettable night.
The entire wedding weekend was so much fun. You guys both looked and did amazing. Jaya, like I said in my speech at the reception, you've become a true sister to me & I'm so happy you're part of our family. But I am glad I don't have to hear any more questions about my dating life... Congratulations on your wedding anniversary! I love you both!
